Key takeaways
•
Search profiles are open to creators and publishers in
India since 6 October 2026.
•
You need 10,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, X or
TikTok, and you must be 18 or older.
•
Claim yours at profile.google.com/claim with the Google
Account tied to your biggest YouTube channel.
•
A profile doesn't push your pages up in rankings, but
people who follow you may see more of your content in Google Discover.
• It's different from a Google Business Profile, which is for shops, clinics and offices that serve customers in a place.
What is a Google Search profile?
A Google Search profile is a
free page on Google that collects your articles, videos and social posts in one
place, with a link people can share. Google describes it as a way for people to
find you and your work more easily on Google Search and Google Discover (Google Search Help).
A profile usually shows:
•
Your photo, name and a short bio
•
Links to your website, YouTube, Instagram, X and TikTok
•
Your latest articles, videos and posts, pulled in from
those accounts
•
A Follow on Google button
People reach it in a few ways.
On mobile, there's a View Search Profile link at the bottom of your
knowledge panel when someone searches your name (Google Search
Help). In Google Discover, people can tap your name at the top of one of
your posts. You can also share your profile's own link, which sits on
profile.google.com.
Think of it as a link-in-bio
page that lives on Google. It can show up when people search for you, and it
can send your new posts to the people who follow you.
Who can get a Search profile in India?
You need to be 18 or older and
have at least 10,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, X or TikTok. One platform
is enough (Search
Engine Journal). It's made for two groups: creators, like YouTubers,
Instagram educators and podcasters, and publishers, like news sites, niche
blogs and online magazines.
The follower bar has dropped
fast since launch:

Two things to check before you
start:
•
It's official for India. Google's help page now
lists India, Canada and the United States, with the same 10,000-follower rule
in all three. Your content must also follow Google's content policies for
Search (Google
Search Help).
•
Google may have made one for you already. If you
have a knowledge panel, Google may have created a profile from your online
presence. Claim that one instead of making a new one (Google Search Help).
How to claim your Google Search profile, step by step
You claim a Search profile at
profile.google.com/claim by signing in, linking one social account that meets
the follower rule, and clicking Create Profile. Here's the full process, based
on Google's own help pages (create a profile,
claim a profile):
1.
Choose the right Google Account. If you'll link
a YouTube channel, sign in with the Google Account that owns it, or one that
manages it. Google suggests using the channel with the most followers.
2.
Check if a profile already exists. Go to
profile.google.com or search your name on Google. If Google already made one,
claim it instead of starting fresh.
3.
Open the claim page. Go to profile.google.com/claim
and sign in.
4.
Link a qualifying account. Connect at least one
YouTube, Instagram, X or TikTok account with 10,000 or more followers.
5.
Click Create Profile. Then add your photo, a
short bio, your website and links to your other accounts.
6.
Wait for your content to sync. New content
usually goes live within 24 hours of linking an account.
7.
Share the link. Add it to your Instagram bio,
YouTube channel, email signature and website.
A few rules catch people out:
•
One profile per brand. Running a personal brand
and a podcast? Make a separate profile for each. One Google Account can manage
up to 10 profiles. Edits to your name, links and bio stay "Pending"
until Google approves them.
•
No team access yet. Google doesn't support
multiple users or admin roles on a profile. For a business, claim it with an
account the business owns, not an employee's personal Gmail.
•
Stuck? Google has a Search profile support form
for claims that fail or profiles that should be merged.
Search profile vs "Add me to Google" vs Google Business Profile
These three get mixed up all the
time, especially in India, where "add me to Google" is searched about
5,400 times a month (Semrush, India). Each one is built for a different kind of
owner:

Which one do you need? If
you sell to customers in a city, set up a Google Business Profile first. Our local SEO checklist
walks you through it. If you're a creator or publisher with 10,000+ followers,
claim a Search profile. Many Indian brands that publish content need both: the
Business Profile wins local searches, and the Search profile shows off the
content.
Does a Search profile help SEO?
Not directly. Google says
creating a Search profile doesn't affect how your content ranks in Google
Search (Google
Search Help). The value is in three other places:
•
Google Discover. People who follow your profile
may see more of your content in their Discover feed (Search
Engine Journal). If you publish news, recipes, finance tips or other
fast-moving topics, Discover can be a big source of visits, so this is the part
to watch.
•
Branded searches. When someone searches your
name, Google may show content from your profile. You decide what that first
impression looks like instead of leaving it to chance.
•
A knowledge panel. Google may add your name, bio
and social links from your profile straight into your knowledge panel (Google Search
Help).
What about AI answers?
Google hasn't said that Search profiles feed AI Overviews or AI Mode. Our view:
a profile still helps, because it tells Google in one verified place which
website, YouTube channel and social accounts belong to you. AI tools describe a
brand more accurately when its details match everywhere. That's the same idea
behind generative
engine optimization, and you can test how AI tools describe you today with

your ChatGPT brand visibility.
6 tips to get more from your Search profile
A Search profile is only as good
as the accounts behind it. These are the steps we'd take for any Indian creator
or publisher:
1.
Link every account you own. The profile can only
show what you connect. Add your website, YouTube, Instagram, X and TikTok, even
the smaller ones.
2.
Use the same name and photo everywhere. If
you're "Spice Trail
Delhi" on YouTube, don't be "spicetrail_official" with a
different logo on Instagram. Matching details help Google, and people, know
it's all you.
3.
Write a bio that says what you do and where.
"Delhi food creator covering street food in Old Delhi and Chandni Chowk"
beats "Food lover | Dreamer". Clear topic plus place is easy for
search engines and AI tools to understand.
4.
Ask people to follow you on Google. Mention it
in a video, pin it in a post, and put the profile link in your bio. Followers
are what bring your content into Discover.
5.
Keep posting on your linked accounts. The
profile pulls in your latest content. A channel that went quiet six months ago
makes the whole profile look stale.
6.
Add the profile link to your website. Put it in
your footer and on your About page next to your other social links, so every
place points to every other place.
Not at 10,000 followers yet?
That's a growth problem, and it's solvable. Our social media
marketing team builds follower growth plans for Indian creators and brands,
and our SEO services make
sure the website behind your profile ranks too.
